British parliament will get vote on final Brexit deal

British lawmakers will get a vote on the deal Prime Minister Theresa May makes with the EU before Brexit is finalised, the government said on Tuesday said.
During the second day of debate on amendments to the bill which will trigger negotiations for Britain’s EU divorce, Brexit Minister David Jones announced that the British parliament would be allowed to vote on the deal before the European parliament.
The announcement seemed to signal a concession to calls to give parliament more say in negotiations with the EU.
But when lawmakers questioned what would happen if parliament declined to accept the deal brokered by the government, Jones confirmed the vote would be held on a “take it or leave it” basis.
May previously promised that she would be prepared to walk away from a bad deal for Britain.
But many members of parliament are concerned about her claim that “no deal is better than a bad deal”, as it could leave the country stuck with World Trade Organization tariffs.
They argue that there can be no “meaningful” vote if parliament is pushed into backing an EU deal because the only other option is no deal at all.
Jones told parliament he could give no assurance there would be further negotiations if lawmakers rejected the final deal, but said he was confident the choice would be meaningful.

You may have to present your social media passwords before getting U.S. visa – Homeland Security Chief, John Kelly

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, John Kelly has said that in order to tighten security in the country, visa applicants, especially those from seven Muslim-majority countries that were temporarily banned from entering the U.S may be required to provide their social media passwords.
He made this known to a hearing of the Homeland Security Committee.
“We’re looking at some enhanced or some additional screening.
We may want to get on their social media, with passwords.
It’s very hard to truly vet these people in these countries, the seven countries. But if they come in, we want to say, what websites do they visit, and give us your passwords. So we can see what they do on the internet
These are the things we are thinking about. But over there we can ask them for this kind of information and if they truly want to come to America, then they will cooperate. If not, next in line,” Kelly said.
Kelly stressed that no decision had been made, but tighter screening would be implemented, even if it means longer delays for awarding U.S. visas to visitors.
President Trump‘s immigration ban on the seven Muslim-majority countries has since been suspended following a court order.
Kelly regretted that the order may have been rolled out too quickly.
“The thinking was to get it out quick so potentially people coming here to harm us would not take advantage,” of a delay, he said.
He said that it wasn’t a ban on Muslims as critics have charged, but a “temporary pause” on immigrants and visitors from countries about whose residents the U.S. can’t access solid information.
He defended the order and sought to take responsibility for the chaotic rollout, saying the confusion was “all on me.”
“Going forward, I would have certainly taken some time to inform the Congress, and certainly that’s something I’ll do in the future,” he said.

Dangote Group Wants 285 Drivers Over Theft Of #3.5m Tires

The Dangote Group of Companies Plc has declared 285 truck drivers wanted over the theft of about 3.5 million customised tires of the company.

The Coordinator of the company’s National Patrol Unit, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji, a retired Commissioner of Police, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Sunday in Lokoja.
Magaji said each tire of the company had an identification number and the number was registered against the driver’s name at the collection point.
”Already, 285 drivers identified to have collected 285 tires have been declared wanted while a number of others are on the run.
”Already, we have stopped their salaries and we are looking for them. So far, about 3.5 million tires are missing from the company and we believe they are in circulation within and outside the country. We are determined to recover them.
”We are appealing to those patronising the drivers and who encouraged them to steal our tires to stop forthwith. Dangote tires are customised and marked. Dealers and vulcanisers should please beware.
”People should ensure that the tires they buy either as new or second hand are not customised Dangote tires. We have arraigned some drivers and dealers caught with tires and efforts are being made to arrest vulcanisers involved,” he said.
According to Magaji, security agents are presently on the trail of an identified kingpin who comes to Obajana and Kano to buy the tires of the drivers.
“Our appeal to vulcanizers is to always look out for our logo on the tires and report accordingly,” the coordinator said.
He said that the president of the group of companies, Dr Aliko Dangote, had expressed concern over the incident, adding that the company was trying by all means to stop the ugly development.
The former commissioner of police appealed to those in custody of the tires to return them “quietly”, either to the company or to the nearest police station to avoid unpleasant consequences, if caught.
He expressed Dangote’s gratitude to the media for sensitising Nigerians on the zero-tolerance disposition of the management of the company for reckless driving and illegal haulage.
Magaji noted that while illegal haulage had dropped by about 85 percent, accidents involving Dangote vehicles had reduced drastically, adding that a silent revolution was going on in the company’s transport section to sanitise it.
