The RMAFC is statutorily empowered by Section 32 (d) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution to determine the remuneration appropriate for political office holders.
Apart from the salaries, the president is entitled to various regular allowances like: Hardship, 50 per cent of the basic salary – N1, 757, 350.50; consistency – 250 per cent, N8, 786, 762.50.

The allowances are paid periodically, some monthly, a few once in four years. Duty Tour Allowance and Estacode depend on travels.
For instance, furniture allowance to other cadre of officials, like ministers and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is given once in four years. The President and Vice President are not paid furniture allowance as they are provided for.
When all allowances payable each month are added, President Buhari will take home N1, 171,568.33 each month, and N14, 058, 820.00 yearly.

The salaries and allowances are drawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund.
The current salary structure and allowances were fixed by the RMAFC in 2007.
Before the review, the basic annual salary of the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo, was N2,586,000 per annum, while that of his deputy, Atiku Abubakar was N1,938,000 the same as that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Senate President, both heads of the judiciary and the legislature.
This was as a result of the review of the salary structure and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders earlier carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
This followed the review of the salary structure and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders earlier carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
That review, which took effect on May 1, 2000, was contained in a memo SWC.04/S.1/Vol.1V/186 dated May 15, 2000 and signed by G.P.O. Chikelu, the then Chairman of the Commission.

Nigerians Please Bear with Us- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari begged Nigerians to bear with his government because a lot damage has been done. Read his statement below;
“I ask Nigerians to please bear with us; a lot of damage has been done. You can look at our infrastructure in 1999 and now and you will appreciate this,” he said.“Nigeria prays a lot; we need to even pray the more for luck so that the expectations our people have, especially the youth, would be met,” he said.Nigeria has to be well secured and efficiently managed; this is what the APC is all about.
“This was why the legacy parties made the sacrifice of jettisoning their personal ambitions, tried to come together and took the bull by the horn and therefore brought it down and slaughtered it literally.”

Inaugural speech by President Muhammadu Buhari

Inaugural speech by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari following his swearing-in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 29th May, 2015

I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture. Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have today a truly democratically elected government in place.

I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation. Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope this act of graciously accepting defeat by the outgoing President will become the standard of political conduct in the country.

I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who believed in us even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes and stay all night if necessary to protect and ensure their votes count and were counted.  I thank those who tirelessly carried the campaign on the social media. At the same time, I thank our other countrymen and women who did not vote for us but contributed to make our democratic culture truly competitive, strong and definitive.

I thank all of you... So Proud Of My President...The New Dawn

Have you guys met Buhari's cute Son, Yusuf???

Yusuf Buhari, the son of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, is unveiled for the first time to the public, as he arrived Nigeria alongside his father, from the United Kingdom, in the early hours of today, May 28. Yusuf cuts a striking resemblance with his father.

Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Abuja, Nigeria, on May 29 to lead the official U.S. delegation on behalf of President Obama for the inauguration of Nigerian President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.
The Secretary will travel later that day to Geneva, Switzerland, to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif on May 30 as part of the ongoing EU-coordinated P5+1 nuclear negotiations.
The Secretary Of State is expected to land in Abuja later today.

Ahead of the Swearing-in Ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria’s next President, Muhammadu Buhari arrived this morning from the Uk as reported by Bayo Omoboriowo. See pictures below:

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said on Wednesday that 167 trucks of petrol were supplied to Abuja on Tuesday following the suspension of strike by oil sector workers on Monday.
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASAN), embarked on indefinite strike on May 18.
The two unions were protesting the inability of the government to meet their demands.
The demands included inability by government to carry out turn-around maintenance of refineries and reduction in the pump prices of petroleum products in line with the slump in global prices of crude oil.
The DPR’s spokesperson, Mr Saidu Mohammed, told NAN on Wednesday that filling stations in Abuja received 5.5 million litres (about 167 trucks) by Tuesday night.
Mohammed said that Suleja Depot, which serves Abuja and its environs, had more than enough fuel to meet the needs of consumers.
The spokesperson expressed the hope that the situation would become normal before the weekend and warned motorists against stockpiling petroleum products.
NAN reports that the scarcity has eased off as many petrol filling stations in Abuja have stocks and are selling.
Many stations on the Airport Road with stocks were selling the product on Wednesday.
In the same vein, Total opposite NNPC towers, Oando filling station near National Planning Commission and Total filling station opposite Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Area 10 among others were selling the product.
All the stations were selling at the official pump price of N87 per litre as against N150 or N250 per litre during the scarcity.
However, long queues existed at the filling stations.
At the NNPC Mega Filling Station on Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Central Area, three lanes of long queues of vehicles blocked the flow of traffic on the road .
The situation was also the same in all filling stations on Airport Road and the Forte Oil adjacent the NNPC where the queue stretched to the UAC fence.
The ConOil and Total filling stations opposite NNPC headquarters had long queues that encircled the Bureau of Statistics Complex to Unity Bank building back to NNPC.
The availability of petrol has yet to end the activities of black market operators, who sold the product between N120 and N200 per litre depending on the bargaining power of the buyer.
However, stations outside Abuja, especially in Suleja, Kuje and Zuba-Gwaglada Road, still sold petrol above the official price except at stations belonging to major oil marketers.
Fares that rose by between 100 per cent and 200 per cent during the period of acute scarcity have also come down by 50 per cent.
A taxi driver, Mr Samuel Uye, plying the Airport Road, said he had reduced the fare by 50 per cent because of the availability of fuel.
“In the morning we collected N200 from passengers but this afternoon we have reduced it to N150 instead of N100 because we still buy fuel above official pump price.
“I used N13,000 to fill my tank instead of N6,000 on a normal day,” he said.
